TIP OF THE WEEK

Casting Tip from Experience: Avoid WD-40 When Oiling Your Ingot Molds
While it might seem convenient to use WD-40 spray to oil your molds before casting
precious metal scrap, I’ve learned from experience — it can cause trouble. The
spray’s propellants and volatile additives often lead to gas bubbles forming on the
surface of the ingot, resulting in poor finish and surface defects.

✅ Better alternatives:
Use a liquid oil (like light machine or mineral oil) applied gently with a brush
Or use casting wax designed for high-temperature mold release

Bonus Tip:
Always preheat your ingot molds before pouring the molten metal. This reduces
thermal shock, improves flow, and helps prevent porosity or surface cracking.
Consistent results come from good habits — even in the smallest steps.
