Hidden Value in Brazing Pastes
precious metal prices rise, materials that were once ignored are becoming economically interesting — including brazing pastes stored in syringes.
Many gold and silver manufacturers have these pastes in stock, often overlooked.
How to calculate the metal value (simple rule of thumb)
Most brazing pastes contain:
~35% organic binder (burns off)
~65% metal powder
Example: 18K gold brazing paste
Paste weight: 10 g
Metal fraction: 65%
Gold content in 18K: 75%
Metal value calculation:
10 × 0.65 × 0.75 × gold price per gram
From the result, remember to deduct:
Refining costs
Processing losses
Your margin
Why this matters
High metal prices turn old consumables into recoverable value
Small quantities add up across workshops and production lines
The same logic applies to silver, Pt, and Pd-based pastes
Bottom line:
In a high-price environment, don’t look only at scrap — look at what’s left in drawers and cabinets.
