Initial Impressions – Fine Center XRF Precious Metal Analyzer

We recently decided to evaluate a new player in the precious metals XRF market: the Fine Center XRF Precious Metal Analyzer.

The instrument is marketed under the Fine Center brand, although it appears to be a private-label product manufactured in China.

At first glance, the unit makes a positive impression. It features a large, colorful touchscreen interface that displays both the analytical results and the XRF spectrum in real time. The sample chamber is relatively spacious, allowing easy testing of a wide range of jewelry items, bars, and other precious metal products. The XRF analyzer is equipped with a built-in HD camera, allowing the user to easily visualize and accurately position the sample during analysis. The system is also supplied with a simple and convenient external printer.

According to the manufacturer’s brochure, the analyzer covers a wide elemental range and is designed specifically for the precious metals industry. The published specifications are shown in the attached brochure image.

To gain an initial understanding of the instrument’s performance, we tested eight different samples, ranging from pure metals to more complex alloys. The results are summarized in the attached comparison table.

Based on this limited evaluation, the results appear to be less consistent than those obtained with our Niton XL3 analyzer, particularly when testing certain complex alloy systems. However, at this stage it would be premature to draw firm conclusions.

A more comprehensive evaluation is required, including a deeper review of the elemental matrix of each sample. For example, in some cases, deviations may be related to the instrument’s ability to identify or quantify minor elements within the alloy. Understanding exactly which elements are included in the analytical matrix may help explain some of the discrepancies observed during testing.

It is important to note that we also performed a radiation safety check, and the instrument was found to be fully safe for operation.

The current price listed on the company’s website is approximately USD 17,000 (before VAT), positioning it as an attractive lower-cost alternative to many well-known XRF analyzers on the market.

At this point, these observations should be considered preliminary impressions only. We are not yet in a position to recommend or reject the instrument. Additional testing will be carried out, and we will continue to share our findings as more data becomes available.

Their affordable and accessible price, combined with simple and user-friendly operation, whether in a benchtop configuration or as a handheld unit (XRF gun), makes them a true must-have.
