Tantalum Recycling with A.G. Metals Ltd: Maximizing Value, Minimizing Waste
Tantalum is a rare and highly valued metal, renowned for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, excellent electrical conductivity, and outstanding performance under extreme temperatures. These unique properties make it an essential material in industries such as electronics (notably for the production of premium capacitors), aerospace, chemical processing, nuclear energy, and advanced medical applications.
As demand for tantalum continues to grow and its natural reserves remain limited, recycling has become a strategic necessity — both economically and environmentally.
Tantalum often appears in the form of sheets or sputtering targets (critical components used in Physical Vapor Deposition [PVD] processes), and may sometimes be bonded to copper plates for industrial purposes. Even after primary use, these materials retain significant tantalum content, making them highly worthwhile for recovery and reuse.
At A.G. Metals Ltd, we specialize in professional tantalum recycling solutions. Thanks to our extensive global network and trusted partnerships with world-leading refiners, we offer our clients comprehensive services for recycling clean tantalum scrap as well as composite materials (such as tantalum bonded to copper).
With tantalum prices currently around $250 per kilogram, recycling tantalum waste presents a valuable opportunity to transform industrial by-products into significant financial returns.
We are committed to helping our clients maximize the value of their materials, while maintaining strict environmental compliance and applying the most advanced recovery technologies.
✅ Tailored recycling solutions
✅ Competitive returns based on real-time market prices

Update – July 1, 2026
The tantalum recycling market continues to follow the strong upward trend seen across most metals, particularly critical and rare metals. As of July 1, 2026, tantalum scrap prices have reached around USD 400 per kg, making proper recycling and material recovery more valuable than ever.
Another important industry update concerns the separation of tantalum sputtering targets from their copper backing plates. In the past, many recyclers used heat to separate the two materials because they were bonded with an indium interlayer.
This approach is no longer effective.
Modern manufacturing technology now bonds the tantalum and copper directly through a combination of heat and pressure, eliminating the indium bonding layer. As a result, the separation process now requires mechanical cutting followed by specialized chemical treatment, rather than simple heating.
If you have spent tantalum targets that require processing, send them to us—we’ll take care of the recycling and maximize the recovery value.
